PBA Phil. Cup Finals Press Conference (13 February 2008)

On: 15 February 2008

The Purefoods Tender Juicy Giants and the Sta. Lucia Realtors took it easy two days before the start of their 2007-08 Smart PBA Philippine Cup best-of-seven title showdown later in the evening at the Araneta Coliseum.

But one could feel the tension and excitement among the players during a pre-finals media conference at Harbour View Restaurant at the Rizal Park on 13 February 2008.

Though swept in two games by the Giants in the elimination round, the Realtors expressed confidence they can win the games that matter most.

The Giants, however, were also optimistic in their bid.

"We've yet to jell when we played our first two games with Purefoods. We've gone a long way since then and I feel we can beat them," said Marlou Aquino, the 6-foot-10 Sta. Lucia veteran center.

"They've had tremendous improvement and we observe that. But I still believe we have what it takes to beat them," said Purefoods slotman Kerby Raymundo.

Meanwhile, Sta. Lucia coach Boyet Fernandez maintained they can beat Purefoods playing tough defense.

"Our team thrives on defense. If we go on to beat Purefoods, it's only because of defense," said Fernandez.

To Purefoods coach Ryan Gregorio, the series would be decided by will more than the skill.

The youthful Purefoods mentor doesn't think Sta. Lucia has the edge on hunger factor.

"People were saying Sta. Lucia is hungrier because it has won only once and it came seven years ago. But we consider championship a daily meal. We'd won our last championship two years ago and we're hungry again," said Gregorio.
