Post Game 5 Interview (25 February 2008)

On: 26 February 2008

This is a post-Game 5 interview made by www.sportsnews.ph on both Sta. Lucia Realtors coach Boyet Fernandez and Purefoods Tender Juicy Giants coach Ryan Gregorio. The Realtors just won Game 5 sans Joseph Yeo, while the Giants missed the services of James Yap.

Fernandez praised the hard work of the Realtors to win the game, 88-76, and, thus, lead the series 3 games to 2 in their best-of-seven series with the Giants. He made mention of Paolo Mendoza's splendid performance on the court to make up for Yeo's absence.

Mendoza, playing on borrowed time, had timely hits and finished with nine, all in the final half. The former UP Maroon rattled in seven straight points early in the fourth, giving the Realtors the first of their two 18-point spreads at 71-53. He also grabbed 2 rebounds, issued 3 asists and stole the ball twice.

Coach Fernandez hopes that they will put more effort next game and will rely again on their defense to dictate the tempo.

Unlike coach Fernandez, coach Gregorio displayed his bitternes on the series. He did not want to take responsibility for the outcome of the game, but instead attributed their loss to the absence of their superstar and to outside factors, such as Commissioner Sonny Barrios' decision to suspend Yap after he deliberately hit Yeo in the face in Game 3. He even appealed to the listeners for sympathy by telling them that they are the 'good guys' here and should not be persecuted.
