PBA Fiesta Cup

Just like other teams, Sta. Lucia Realty is keeping the identity of its prospective import for the PBA Fiesta Cup.

According to head coach Boyet Fernandez, the Realtors, the newly-crowned Philippine Cup champions, are ready to bring in a 6-foot-8 import for the season-ending tournament which begins March 29.

"Management is still finalizing details of the contract," Fernandez, who refused to name the import, said yesterday.

"He's a strong player. He can be efficient inside the lane and at the perimeter on offense and a solid defender. Ayaw pa naming ilabas ang pangalan kasi baka may makakita pang ibang team," he added.

Fernandez said that just in case negotiations between management and their first choice for import will not work, they have two other prospects.

Sta. Lucia is eyeing a back-to-back title campaign and third title overall after its successful stint in the previous conference where it downed Purefoods TJ Hotdogs in a classic best-of-seven showdown.

The Realtors beat the Giants in Game 7 for its first championship in seven years since winning the 2001 Governors' Cup.

The Exequiel Robles-owned franchise won the Governors' Cup with import Damien Owens against San Miguel Beer.

So far, only Talk 'N Text and Air21 have already listed their imports in the next conference which allows unlimited height for reinforcement.

Exempted to the rule, however, are Welcoat Paints and Coca-Cola which can acquire two imports -- one with unlimited height and the other no taller than 6-foot-1 -- for finishing at the bottom of the Philippine Cup eliminations.

The Phone Pals signed former Oklahoma University stalwart Aaron McGhee while the Express tabbed CBA veteran Steve Tomas.

Still shopping for imports are Welcoat, Coke, Purefoods, Barangay Ginebra, Magnolia Beverage, Red Bull, Sta. Lucia and defending champion Alaska.
