PBA Fiesta Cup

With the team still trying to find their rhythm after winning the 2007-2008 Philippine Cup Finals, Wesley Wilson took charge in the second half to help the Realtors win their first game this conference by fashioning a come from behind victory, 93-86, against the Alaska Aces.

Hoping to avenge their semifinal lost last Conference, the Aces took an early 43-34 lead with 6:08 to go in the second period after a back-to-back triples from Larry Fonacier, the Aces' new acquisition from Magnolia Beverage Masters. LA Tenorio, also a new Aces, made a good account of himself by issuing a team-high seven assists, scoring four points and grabbing four rebounds to keep the Realtors at bay, 68-67, after three quarters.

If not for the consistent plays of 6-11 Wilson, the Aces would have easily coasted to an easy victory. The Aces' speed and good shooting percentage on the floor help them keep their dominance until the experience-factor kicked in for the Realtors in the last quarter.

Dennis Espino’s left-handed layup capped a blistering 21-8 surge over a nine-minute span by the Realtors in the fourth that gave it the game’s biggest lead at 88-76, only 2:46 to go. The SLR onslaught was so fast and unexpected that the Aces' starting unit was caught flat-footed and made some ill-advised hurried shots. The Realtors did not look back from that point on.

Wilson finished the game with a team-high 24 points, hauled down a game-high 13 rebounds and readily etched his paint-patrolling prowess with a season’s best six shot blocks to offset his 10 turnovers, also the most by any player this season.

Williams chipped in his usual double-double fare of 17 points and 11 rebounds, Joseph Yeo scattered 12 of his 14 points in the second half and veterans Marlou Aquino and Dennis Espino combined for 15 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

The Realtors also pounded the ball inside and wound up outscoring the defending Fiesta Cup Champion Alaska 56-26 in points inside the paint.
