Like the Philippine Cup, Kelly Williams continue to lord it over in points, rebounds and minutes among the locals. It cannot be denied that imports will dominate this Conference, with SLR's Jamaal Williams averaging almost 30.4 ppg, but Kelly Williams' average of 18.4 ppg, 8.9 rpg and 40.7 mpg are the team's best after the import. Unfortunately with the trade of Kenneth Duremdes, Alex Cabagnot and Ricky Calimag to Coca-Cola Tigers in exchange for Dennis Miranda, Manny Ramos and a future draft pick, Williams was left with only Nelbert Omolon averaging in double figure in points, 11.37 ppg. Dennis Espino suffered some minor injuries and was only able to provide 9.27 points per contest.
The biggest dissapointment was Paolo Mendoza who used to average about 10.37 ppg during the previous Conference, but can only squeeze 4.9 ppg in this series. Mendoza's averaged could have fallen after he was shifted back to the point guard position after Cabagnot was traded. He used to play as a shooting guard in the ameteurs and this is the where he is most comfortable with.
Another player whose contribution dip in this Conference primarily because of the use of imports, is Marlou Aquino. During the Philippine Cup, Aquino average about 8.54 ppg, 3.5 rpg 1.8 bpg and 22.2 mpg. Having to match up with bigger and faster imports, Aquino only managed 5.95 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 1.4 bpg and 19.3 mpg.
SLR is actually hoping that the trade of Duremdes, Cabagnot and Calimag will eventually bear fruit in the future and give them some headroom to sign promising rookies and free agents.
